It’s So Planted! – Final Thoughts on The Specialized Stumpjumper 15

I was able to demo the Specialized Stumpjumper 15 Expert for three weeks and got to test it on some big jumps and gnarly tech. I was blown away with how well this bike handled everything. The new Stumpy felt incredibly planted and inspired confidence on the trails!

Conditions weren’t optimal, but that allowed me to really push the bike, and myself, to the limits. It performed remarkably well on the jumps at Skyline at Mt Penn, and on the gap jumps at Ceres Park. I also wanted to see how it would do on some of the more nastier tech features, and I was pleasantly surprised. The Stumpy handled almost everything I threw at it with composure and fluidity.

However, I did notice that I got a lot of bobbing when I went to stand on the cranks, but the shop folks told me they could eliminate that with some tokens in the rear shock. I also found it hard to get the wheels up to speed on a sprint start. Coming from a Ibis Mojo 3 with 27.5 wheels the big 29ers took some time to get used too. But since this bike is offered in a mullet configuration, I think that would solve that problem.

All in all, I was impressed with the adjustability of the frame and performance of the new Genie shock. I’m not much of a numbers guy so if you want the full detailed specs, check out the link below.
