If you are looking for a mountain bike destination in North New Jersey, and you love tech, Ringwood State Park has you covered. This place will test your MTB skills and leave you smiling from ear to ear.
The last time we were here it was wet, and even though we had a blast, we vowed to come back again in dry conditions. What a difference! If you want to see that video click this link: https://youtu.be/UQ5ogHHUv2Q In addition to some cool downhill runs, we also found a cool drop line that we missed the first time. I highly recommend checking out this trail network if you are in the area.

OUR ROUTE:
Starting from the Martin J Ryerson Middle School parking lot we used Ringwood Ramapo Ryerson and Spruce Place to connect with Ringwood Ramapo trail (which is full of rock tech). Around the 4 mile mark we made a sharp left on to Cannonball. Cannonball has some fun sections but we took it too far and ended up climbing Crossover (White) which was a hike-a-bike. I would instead make a left at the Erskine Connector and take that up to Hoeferlin Memorial.
After that annoying climb we finally linked on to Crossover/Hoeferlin Memorial Trail. The next few miles are confusing on the map but you basically stay on Crossover (or some variation of it) until you reach Pond Rd. Our second mistake was going through Swan Pond instead of around it. I don’t know if it is bike legal but I would suggest staying on Pond Rd until you reach Crossover Lot A and Crossover 19.
We then used Alligator to link back on to Shepherd Pond Rd. The Race Trail can be found a ½ mile down on your right. Eventually you will reach the top where you will connect with Skylands. If you are looking for the drops, they can be found at the intersection of Skylands and Ringwood Ramapo Knob. We finished the day by descending Warm Puppy Rock and using Black Bear to get back to the lot.
In total, our ride ended up being about 20 miles with 2800 ft of climbing. If want to follow the route we took, check out my Strava or Trailforks links below.
