Bear Rocks & Knife’s Edge: Appalachian Trail Run

This section of the Appalachian Trail in PA is filled with technical terrain, rock scrambles and breathtaking overlooks. If you’re a trail runner looking for a challenge this is your spot.

In this video we focused on the 5 mile section of the A.T. between Bake Oven Rd in Germansville PA, and W Penn Pike (Route 309) in Andreas PA. I also included a short warm up to Bake Oven Knob to start the run, which is less than a half a mile and climbs about 100 ft. I typically do this route as an out and back which totals 10 miles and about 1000 ft.

To get to Bear Rocks and Knife’s Edge starting from the Bake Oven lot head southbound on the A.T. Follow the white blazes for about 1.2 miles and you will see Bear Rocks on the right. Go another .8 miles and you will end up at Knife’s Edge. At the 3 mile mark you will end up at the power lines and the trail mellows out for the next two miles until you reach the Andreas parking lot.

While this video was aimed at trail running, it is worth noting it is also an excellent hike. So whether you are on a thru hike, or looking to push your trail running limits, I hope this video will give you a good idea of what to expect. I will leave links to both parking lots, as well as the AllTrails page, where you can use their interactive map to guide you on the trail.
